[TO LOW FAT OR TO LOW CARB??]

That is the question!

I wanted to revisit an important area of nutrition, which strategy is ‘better’ when aiming to lose weight?

Going low carb?
Or Going low fat?

Now not long ago (Feb 2018) some excellent research was published investigating this very area in great detail.

It’s a pretty well respected piece of research in the science world too, plenty of participants in the study, plenty of monitoring participant adherence throughout the study, well controlled, over a long period etc.

Essentially it’s well worth listening to the results of this one!

Now the main results of this study is that over the year, BOTH groups lost a similar amount of weight REGARDLESS of whether they were following a low carb approach vs. low fat approach.

The fact of the matter is that both groups followed similar calorie deficits regardless of their strategy, and therefor achieved similar weight loss results.

PLEASE do not be scared of fats, nor carbs.

What I am essentially telling you today is that based on the current research they are irrelevant to the process of losing body fat.

The only reason why you should chose low fat over low carb OR visa versa,

Is personal preference.

If I have a few pounds to lose, personally I find it easier to reduce the carb section of my diet, especially on non-training days.

The higher fat intakes means I feel a little fuller a little easier too.

YOU may be the COMPLETE opposite and need to have higher carb then fat intakes to feel awesome whilst losing weight.

That bit really is down to you.

As long as you are in a calorie deficit (burning off more calories than you are taking in)

You’re good to go!
